It was here where Martin Luther lived and preached, and on October 31, 1517, he nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church. The Protestant Reformation had begun. Sometimes called the “Rome of the Protestants”, many Luther memorial sites were added to the UNESCO world heritage list in 1996.
