Overview

Begin with an exterior visit to the Cathedral of Reggio Emilia, known for its elegant neoclassical façade. Then walk to Piazza San Prospero for the first food stop at Panificio Melli, where you’ll taste gnocco al forno and focaccia allo stracchino. Continue with an exterior visit to the Basilica of San Prospero, dedicated to the city’s patron saint and famous for the six marble lions at its entrance. Next, stop at a traditional tavern to share a platter of local cold cuts. Afterward, stroll through Piazza Fontanesi and pass by the Museo del Tricolore (outside), where the Italian flag was first adopted in 1797. Walk through Piazza del Monte and near the Teatro Municipale Valli, one of the city’s most important cultural landmarks. End the tour at a historic gelateria on Via Guido da Castello, where you’ll enjoy three flavors of homemade gelato.
