Overview
Step into Norfolk Island’s extraordinary past on an in-depth guided tour of World Heritage-listed Kingston, one of the island’s most historically significant and evocative landscapes. With a strong focus on Norfolk Island’s two British penal settlements, your local guide will bring to life the people, events and systems that shaped this remarkable place. From the island’s first European settlement in 1788 through to the infamous Second Settlement, when Norfolk Island became known as one of the harshest penal colonies in the British Empire. Along the way, guests will also gain insight into the two other communities who have called Kingston home: the early Polynesian settlers who lived on Norfolk Island centuries before European arrival, and the descendants of the Bounty mutineers and their Tahitian families who arrived from Pitcairn Island in 1856. The tour includes a guided visit through the historic Kingston cemetery.
